Gembara
An electric string instrument born between the guitar, the guembri and the desert.
Gembara brings together instrument design, music and visual art. Inspired by Gnawa and Tuareg musical traditions, the project explores how bass, drone and melody can share one instrument.
From idea to instrument
The making process moves between sketches, a wooden body, colour, patterns, shells and textiles. Each stage develops both the instrument and its visual identity.
Gembara pedal table
A small table I made as part of the Gembara project. Its blue surface and decorative details carry the instrument’s visual language into another object.
An evolving project
Gembara is an ongoing exploration of sound, form and cultural dialogue. It reflects how I work: imagine a possibility, question familiar forms and develop the idea through making.
